New Horizons
A shared vision for mental health
The Department of Health released its new 10-year strategy for mental health in England in December 2009. This is called New Horizons: a shared vision for mental health. This strategy focuses on two key areas:
- improving mental health services and outcomes for people who use those services
- improving and promoting better mental health amongst the whole population
You can download the full strategy, as well as related documents, here
What does this mean for staff working with mental health carers and service users?
This strategy is vitally important for anyone with experience of mental illness, as this sets the direction for mental health services for the next 10 years. This will affect:
- the support offered to service users,
- the support carers should be able to expect, and
- the direction, design and provision of mental health services across England
